Welcome!
Every morning when I step into the chicken yard, I’m greeted by a burst of life that never fails to lift my spirits. After 10 years of chicken keeping, I’ve learned that no two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly what makes this little corner of my world so special. With eight hens, three roosters, and one very enthusiastic duck, there is always a story waiting to be told. My goal with this blog is simply to share the daily adventures, small miracles, and humor that come from spending time with a flock full of personality. Whether you’ve kept chickens yourself or just enjoy a peaceful moment of nature-based storytelling, I hope this space brings you a smile.

A few of my “backyard” chickens
A special chicken named Shirley
One of the first chickens you’ll meet here is Shirley, My super special miracle girl. In 2024 during subzero temps, I was concerned about her missing feathers. I was out of town, so all I could really do is pray for her. So, I prayed over her and then stood in awe when I returned home and saw her; the wide area that had been bald over months was covered with new, fluffy white feathers. Holy chicken! It was a miracle! Today, she makes a mad dash for me when she sees me coming. You can see her below. She’s quite the character and really loves me! Today she sat on my lap in the chicken house!

Shirley and I
Spot the border collie
Our 3-year-old border collie Spot thinks he’s herding sheep when he runs around the fenced chicken yard. He gets super excited about doing it. The chickens are used to him so aren’t a bit flustered.

A duck named Jackie
Finally, I can’t forget to introduce Jacki, my White Pekin duck. She has been waddling around with me for 7 years. She frantically quacks each morning when I am heading out to feed and water everybody. It is so cute! Owning backyard chickens is a backyard adventure!
